Fall Paddle Festival
October 13, 2011 | Chase Kosterlitz
I am very excited for the fast approaching 2nd annual Fall Paddle Festival. This will be around the 12th stand up paddle race I have put on in the past couple of years. My hope is that everyone has as much fun racing as I do putting on the event.
The highlight of the weekend is sure to be the Halloween costume team relay. You can get an idea of the fun if you can imagine cross-dressed stand up paddlers and paddlers in full werewolf costume battling it out on the water. I have not come up with my costume idea yet but it is sure to be more creative than dressing up as ‘The Water Monkey’.
The weekend’s festivities will kick off on Saturday evening when I put on a pro stand up paddle clinic from 3-5. The clinic is $75 and will take place on Treasure Island in front of the host hotel, The Island Inn. Come out and learn some of the technique’s and skills that have helped me win a few big stand up paddle races in 2011.
Make sure you make it out Sunday morning to either watch or compete in what will be one of the biggest SUP races in Tampa Bay this year. Competitors will race 8 miles around Treasure Island or 3 miles in front of the beach. Each race is designed to cater to stand up paddlers of different abilities.
The Fall Paddle Festival is a way that Water Monkey can give back to the SUP community in St. Pete and abroad. We are very thankful for all of the support and business we have received in the past year and we look forward to sharing this event for many years to come.
